Induction

We have a full induction package to help you settle in and find your way around.
As part of the probation family we want to ensure that you hit the ground running. We have a full induction programme to help you settle in and find your way around. Induction will include national inductions plus tailored induction specific to your role and the region you work in.  You will also need to complete the Gateway to Practice and your Line Manager will be able to help you with this.

You will be given a log in for the EQuiP database which stores all the guidance and policies you will need to do your job. The guidance will help you understand the structure of the Probation Service and what is expected of you as a civil servant. You will also find details of the learning you will need specifically for your role and how to access it.

Mandatory Learning-as a civil servant and a member of Ministry of Justice all probation staff must complete the mandatory learning required as part of the competency based pay progression framework.  Your Line Manager will sign post this for you and it will for part of your regular 1-2-1 conversation as well as your development.

You will also have the option to complete a workplace assessment to ensure that your workspace meets your needs and the Health and Safety requirements.  You will also have the opportunity to discuss any reasonable adjustments you may require to support you in your role.

Professional registration- you may be able to join our new professional register which recognises and champions the professional status of our qualified probation professionals.

Observational visits

For those of you who have joined us in administrative roles or as probation service officers, your line manager will arrange short observational visits to 7 areas of probation delivery which you should have had information about. If you will be working as a probation services officer or have joined as a PQiP learner you will have the opportunity to spend some time with your reception and case administrator colleagues to gain a greater understanding of their work.

These visits listed below will allow you to see at first hand the work your colleagues undertake, how your role interacts with theirs, and cement the information provided in the online induction package.

Your line manager will be able to provide you with the times, dates and locations of these in due course.

For those of you undertaking the PQiP course you will undertake placements as part of your studies and you will be provided with details as you progress via your course.
