Job description

Job Title: Personnel Security Project Lead

Directorate: Directorate of Security

Team: Risk and Capabilities Unit (RaCU)

Duration: Fixed Term Loan for 2 years

Grade: HMPPS Band 8

We’re looking for a driven and dynamic Project Lead to spearhead the introduction of a new vetting programme for HMPPS staff and play a pivotal role in embedding vetting requirements into our new shared services offer and digital platform.

This is a high-profile, fast-paced role at the heart of modernising how we manage and assure personnel security. You’ll lead delivery across multiple workstreams from policy to operational rollout, ensuring alignment between security, HR, and digital service teams. You’ll balance strategic vision with hands-on delivery, turning plans into tangible progress.

You’ll be:

  • Self-sufficient and organised, able to prioritise and deliver at pace in a complex, evolving environment.
  • A strong communicator, comfortable engaging confidently with senior leaders, delivery partners, and technical specialists.
  • Skilled in building relationships and driving collaboration, ensuring diverse stakeholders stay aligned and accountable.
  • Someone who holds yourself and others to high standards, ensuring delivery is timely, effective, and outcome-focused.

This is an exciting opportunity to make a real impact in shaping the future of vetting across the department – enhancing trust, assurance, and operational excellence in how we protect our people, information, and services.
