We’re recruiting for Senior Accessibility Specialists here at Justice Digital, Data and Science to be part of our warm and collaborative Digital Accessibility team, in the Delivery Governance Office.
MoJ is one of the largest government departments. It employs 90,000+ people, providing a variety of services for the general public. We are made up of a variety of business areas, including Legal Aid Agency, Criminal Injuries and Compensation Authority, His Majesty’s Prison and Probation Service, Office of the Public Guardian, and HQ.
The Digital Accessibility team works as a cross-cutting team, supporting all of these areas. To collaborate with them in building accessible digital products and services, we create and run accessibility courses, provide an accessibility consultancy service, write and distribute guidance, and host an Accessibility Champions network.
We’re an established team, founded in 2021, now in our 5th year - and we’re looking to grow! We’re a multi-disciplinary distributed team who regularly attend conferences together, support each other across workstreams, and share our findings and progress so we can continuously learn from each other. Specific responsibilities would include:
Leading on a workstream within the team: creating the strategy for it, planning out what needs to happen when, and with who, with support from the Head of Accessibility.
Supporting mid-level specialists in delivering consultancy to teams: working collaboratively with teams to help them understand accessibility issues in their services, supporting them in approaches for fixing these issues, to meet their legal obligations under the Public Sector Bodies Accessibility Regulations 2018 and the Equality Act 2010.
Line management of mid-level accessibility specialists and mentorship of people interested in the accessibility profession.
Supporting and contributing to the accessibility communities of practise within the organisation and across government.
Inputting into our team’s strategy.

Essential
Strong understanding of the needs of all users and how to apply WCAG 2.2 and government accessibility requirements to support these
Experience influencing ways of working and accessibility practice across teams, services or organisational boundaries.
Ability to engage and communicate with a wide range of technical and non-technical stakeholders on the topic of accessibility
Creating, owning and communicating the strategy of a workstream
Ability to mentor and coach other members of staff, both within the accessibility profession and outside
Willingness to be assessed against the requirements for BPSS clearance

Base salary for this role is from £58,511 - £65,329 (National) or £63,343 - £70,725 (London)
New entrants to the Civil Service joining the MoJ are expected to start at the minimum of the pay band.
Existing Civil Servants moving on a level transfer will retain their current base salary or move to the minimum of the pay band for the role, whichever is higher.
Existing Civil Servants who are promoted will either move to the bottom of the new grade’s pay band or receive a 10% uplift, whichever provides the greater increase.
The final offer will reflect the skills and experience you demonstrate during the assessment process.
In Justice Digital, Data and Science, we recruit using a combination of the Government Digital and Data Profession Capability and Success Profiles Frameworks. We shall assess a combination of your Experience, Technical skills and Behaviours during the assessment process.

Stage 2 - Interviews:
Successful candidates who meet the required standard will then be invited to a panel interview held via Microsoft Teams. At interview stage, you will be assessed against the following Success Profile elements - Experience, Technical and the following Behaviours:

As part of your interview, you will be asked to deliver a presentation that assesses your technical capability and the leadership behaviour. Further details will be provided if successful at sift.
Appointments are made strictly in merit order. In the event that two or more candidates receive identical interview scores, the leadership behaviour will be applied as the primary lead criterion to determine the final merit order.
Should you be unsuccessful in the role that you have applied for but demonstrate the capability for a role at a lower level, we reserve the right to discuss this opportunity with you and offer you the position without needing a further application.
A reserve list may be held for up to 12 months, from which further appointments may be made.
