We’re recruiting for Senior Infrastructure Operations Engineers here at Justice Digital, Data and Science to be part of our warm and collaborative Technology Operations team.
This role aligns against Senior Infrastructure Operations Engineer from the Government Digital and Data Framework
The Technology Operations team is part of Technology Services in the MoJ Justice Digital, Data & Science (JDDS) directorate. It is a team made up of 6 functions: Service Resilience, Service Optimisation, Service Management, Onsite Support, Transformation and Remote Support. These roles are based within the Onsite Support team.
The Technology Operations team provides Local and Remote 1st and 2nd line support excellence that enables our MoJ customers to thrive.

Key Responsibilities:
Senior Infrastructure Operations Engineers act as first, second or third line support for incidents, problems and changes to solutions and services. At this role level, you will:
- Work onsite 5 days per week (or part-time equivalent) providing face to face support to end users and senior stakeholders.
- Contact and liaise with end users onsite when necessary and providing excellent customer service.
- Carry out first-time fixes within guidelines to reduce impact to end users.
- Provide flexible onsite support to Tech Hubs, VIP users, Prison and Probation users. Successful candidates will be assigned a primary base but will provide support to other areas as required. Support to users may be required out of normal working hours which will be arranged through an agreed rota where required.
- Work in partnership with both internal and external partners to fix technical problems including liaising and escalating to third line support and ensuring excellent partnership and collaborative working.
- Provide guidance on suitable technical workarounds that enables users to operate whilst a permanent resolution is being provisioned.
- Document and update IT support and knowledge management materials.
- Build and supply devices to the VIP community, providing a smooth hand-over to ensure equipment meets the needs of the user.
- Gain and maintain an understanding of Assistive Technology to support users.
- Act as a Point of Contact for Major Incidents and IT queries for all users, including VIP customers, acting as conduit between customers and suppliers.
- Carry out regular onsite Health checks and Service Continuity assessments, reporting findings to relevant stakeholders and supporting in the mitigation of any associated risks.
- Provide specialist technical support and assistance to Launchpad services onsite whilst ensuring liaison with Digital Team members and Senior onsite stakeholders.
- Provide technical support to projects, ensuring delivery of non-functional requirements and continual service improvement.
- Build and maintain good working relationships with Senior onsite stakeholders, colleagues, site staff and suppliers. Ensure regular contact and face to face meetings take place with Senior prison stakeholders on both Launchpad and non-Launchpad sites.
- Provide risk management and information assurance support and advice to colleagues, partners and staff to build risk awareness and report and manage any risks identified appropriately.
- Support departments in prison and HMPPS Digital teams to automate and digitise manual prison processes.
- Be responsible for preparations and support of IT operations solutions and services - physical or virtual - according to industry and organisational best practices, standards, service requirements and Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) and Service Level Agreements (throughout the product life cycle.
- Assist in the provision of first-class services and consistent levels of capability, as required by the organisation.
- Be prepared for ongoing technical development and evolution as service offering change and improve.
- Ensure defined processes and guidelines are adhered to minimise risk and promote consistency in a team approach.
- Actively participate in working parties to manage, develop and improve processes and working relationships with stakeholders.
This is a national role and whilst successful candidates will be allocated a base site, there will be a requirement to travel to a variety of sites both inside and outside your region to support the business and the wider Onsite Team.

Salary Information**
Base salary for this role is from £49,325 - £53,081 (London); £42,914 - £46,182 (National)
- New entrants to the Civil Service joining the MoJ are expected to start at the minimum of the pay band.
- Existing Civil Servants moving on a level transfer will retain their current base salary or move to the minimum of the pay band for the role, whichever is higher.
- Existing Civil Servants who are promoted will either move to the bottom of the new grade’s pay band or receive a 10% uplift, whichever provides the greater increase.

Working Arrangements & Further Information
The MoJ offers Hybrid Working arrangements where business need allows. This is an informal, non-contractual form of flexible working that blends working from your base location, different MoJ sites and / or from home (please be aware that this role can only be worked in the UK and not overseas). All employees will be expected to spend a minimum of 60% of their working time in an office, subject to local estate capacity.
Some roles will not be suitable for Hybrid Working. Similarly, Hybrid Working will not suit everyone’s circumstances. Arrangements will be discussed and agreed with the successful candidate(s) and subject to regular review.
For nationally advertised roles: All successful candidates will be appointed to the nearest viable office nearest to their home postcode and on its respective pay scale. This will be at either a HQ building (subject to desk allocation, a Justice Collaboration Centre (JCC) or a Justice Satellite Office (JSO) – See Map. All employees will be expected to spend a minimum of 60% of their working time in an office, subject to local estate capacity).
For current MoJ employees, your base location will need to be changed to the nearest viable office (to your home postcode), either at a HQ building, JCC or JSO within the National Office Network and moved its location’s respective pay scale (any legacy arrangements/locations will need to be amended).
Some of MoJ’s terms and conditions of service are changing as part of Civil Service reform. The changes will apply to staff joining MoJ who are new to the Civil Service. Staff joining MoJ from other civil service employers will transfer onto the new MoJ terms if they are already on 'modernised' terms in their current post or onto 'unmodernised' MoJ terms if they are on 'unmodernised' terms at their current post. MoJ candidates who are on a specialist grade, will be able to retain their grade on lateral transfer.

Flexible working hours
