Job description

Proud to Serve. Proud to keep justice going.

As a bailiff you will play a vital role in the UK’s Justice System working on the front line, dealing with people who are at some of the most challenging points of their lives.

About us

HM Courts & Tribunals Service (HMCTS) is an agency of the Ministry of Justice. We provide support for the legal system across England and Wales, ensuring justice works for everyone.

Our Justice system defends our fundamental rights and freedoms. It is a cornerstone of our modern society. It protects some of the most vulnerable people in our communities, from families in crisis to claimants and commercial businesses. We have a responsibility to deliver a Justice system that is accessible to everyone and operates efficiently.

We asked some bailiffs what they loved about their job, and here are their responses:

The abilities you need as a bailiff is the ability to listen, to be a good communicator and you need a persuasive manner to explain that it’s an order from the Courts that has to be carried out, whilst, showing great empathy for customers.

I do love this job, its only my 3rd job since I left school, I’m 58, my first job I had for around 39 years, I probably haven’t got another 39 left, but if I did, I’d hope I’m still a bailiff.”

“Being a bailiff is incredibly rewarding…you are part of a select group within HMCTS, you can draw on the experience of colleagues who will always be on hand to give advice or support you when needed.  It’s not just a job- it’s who you are and how you deliver it.”

Your role

We understand that this role will not suit everyone, but if you like a dynamic job that has different challenges each day a bailiff role may suit you.

To be a successful bailiff, you will be an excellent communicator. You need to be able to swiftly assess circumstances, adapt accordingly and be a confident leader in emotionally charged situations.

As a Bailiff you will be visiting people in their homes and businesses, you must be able to calmly explain why you are visiting and what options are available to help resolve matters. You must be able to demonstrate empathy for court users, be non-judgmental but focussed on carrying out your role whilst fully respecting the customers that you meet.

You will be able to plan your days to manage your workload but be able to cope and adapt with plans changing at short notice.

We give you the option of using your own car or, following successful completion of your probation period, a lease car, (UK driving licence required for a lease car) so a full licence entitling you to drive permanently in Great Britain is essential.  Fuel allowances are paid.  You will receive full PPE and safety training to give you the knowledge and confidence to conduct your bailiff duties successfully. You should be familiar with using IT and be comfortable with receiving training on the courts case management systems.

If you have excellent customer service skills, prefer working away from an office, enjoy working by yourself or in a small team and like your days to be varied, then working as a bailiff may be the job for you.

Not to be confused with private Bailiffs, this role gives you the opportunity to make a difference in HMCTS and develop your career within the Civil Service.

We’re passionate about delivering Justice for everybody in the UK. That means having a diverse workforce that fully represents the people we serve so if you have the confidence and desire to make a difference and are interested, please apply.

Please refer to the job description attachment for more information.

Work undertaken will be for Cardiff Civil Justice Centre.

Yn Falch o Wasanaethu. Yn falch o gynnal cyfiawnder.

Fel beili, byddwch yn chwarae rôl hanfodol yn system gyfiawnder y DU, gan weithio ar y rheng flaen yn delio â phobl sy’n wynebu rhai o’r cyfnodau mwyaf heriol yn eu bywydau.

Amdanom ni

Mae Gwasanaeth Llysoedd a Thribiwnlysoedd EF (GLlTEF) yn asiantaeth o'r Weinyddiaeth Gyfiawnder. Rydym yn darparu cefnogaeth i'r system gyfreithiol ledled Cymru a Lloegr, gan sicrhau bod cyfiawnder yn gweithio i bawb.

Mae ein system gyfiawnder yn amddiffyn ein hawliau sylfaenol a’n rhyddid. Mae’n rhan ganolog o’n cymdeithas fodern. Mae’n amddiffyn rhai o’r bobl fwyaf bregus yn ein cymunedau, o deuluoedd mewn argyfwng i hawlwyr a busnesau masnachol. Mae gennym gyfrifoldeb i ddarparu system gyfiawnder sy’n hygyrch i bawb ac sy’n gweithredu’n effeithlon.

Bu inni ofyn i rai o’n beilïaid beth oedd eu hoff bethau am eu swydd, a dyma eu hymatebion:

“Y galluoedd rydych eu hangen fel beili yw - y gallu i wrando, bod yn gyfathrebwr da ac mae arnoch angen modd perswadiol i esbonio ei fod yn orchymyn gan y Llysoedd y mae’n rhaid ei gyflawni a dangos llawer o empathi i gwsmeriaid ar yr un pryd.

Rwyf wir yn caru’r swydd hon, dyma yw fy nhrydedd swydd ers i mi adael yr ysgol. Rwy’n 58 oed, ac roeddwn i yn fy swydd gyntaf am 39 o flynyddoedd. Mae’n debyg nad oes gen i 39 arall ar ôl, ond petai gen i, rwy’n gobeithio y byddaf dal yn feili.”

“Mae bod yn feili yn rhoi llawer iawn o foddhad...rydych yn rhan o grŵp arbennig o fewn GLlTEF, gallwch ddysgu drwy brofiad cydweithwyr a fydd wastad wrth law i roi cyngor neu gefnogaeth pan fyddwch ei angen.  Nid yw’n swydd yn unig - mae hi’n fwy am bwy ydych chi a’r ffordd rydych chi’n gwneud y gwaith.”

Eich rôl

Deallwn na fydd y rôl hon yn addas i bawb, ond os ydych chi eisiau swydd ddeinamig sy’n cyflwyno heriau gwahanol bob dydd, gall rôl beili fod yn addas i chi.

Mae’n rhaid i chi fod yn gyfathrebwr ardderchog i fod yn feili llwyddiannus. Mae arnoch angen gallu asesu amgylchiadau yn gyflym, addasu yn unol â’r sefyllfa a bod yn arweinydd hyderus mewn sefyllfaoedd hynod emosiynol.

Fel Beili, byddwch yn ymweld â phobl yn eu cartrefi a’u busnesau. Mae arnoch angen gallu esbonio mewn modd tawel pam eich bod yn ymweld, a pha opsiynau sydd ar gael iddynt i helpu i ddatrys eu problemau. Rhaid eich bod yn gallu dangos empathi tuag at ddefnyddwyr llys, peidio â beirniadu a chanolbwyntio ar gyflawni eich rôl ar yr un pryd â pharchu’r cwsmeriaid byddwch yn eu cyfarfod.

Byddwch yn gallu cynllunio eich dyddiau i reoli eich baich gwaith yn effeithiol ond rhaid eich bod yn gallu addasu oherwydd gall cynlluniau newid ar fyr rybudd.

Byddwn yn rhoi’r opsiwn i chi ddefnyddio eich car eich hun neu, ar ôl cwblhau eich cyfnod prawf, car prydles, (mae angen trwydded yrru’r DU ar gyfer car prydles). Felly, mae meddu ar drwydded yrru lawn sy’n rhoi’r hawl barhaol i chi yrru yn y Deyrnas Unedig yn hanfodol.  Bydd lwfansau tanwydd yn cael eu talu.  Fe gewch PPE llawn a hyfforddiant diogelwch i roi’r wybodaeth a’r hyder i chi gyflawni eich dyletswyddau fel beili yn llwyddiannus. Dylech fod yn gyfarwydd â defnyddio offer TG a bod yn gyfforddus i dderbyn hyfforddiant ar system rheoli achosion y llysoedd.

Os oes gennych sgiliau gwasanaeth cwsmeriaid rhagorol, mae’n well gennych weithio i ffwrdd o’r swyddfa, rydych yn mwynhau gweithio ar eich pen eich hun neu mewn tîm bach ac yn hoffi gwaith amrywiol, yna gall fod yn feili fod y swydd berffaith i chi.

Yn wahanol iawn i feilïaid preifat, mae’r rôl hon yn rhoi cyfle i chi wneud gwahaniaeth o fewn GLlTEF a datblygu eich gyrfa yn y Gwasanaeth Sifil.

Rydym yn angerddol am weinyddu cyfiawnder i bawb yn y DU. Mae hyn yn golygu bod â gweithlu amrywiol sy’n cynrychioli’r bobl rydym yn eu gwasanaethu. Felly, os oes gennych yr hyder a’r awydd i wneud gwahaniaeth ac mae gennych ddiddordeb, ewch amdani ac ymgeisio am y swydd hon.

Cyfeiriwch at y swydd ddisgrifiad (neu broffil y rôl os oes un) sydd ynghlwm i gael mwy o wybodaeth.

Rhagor o wybodaeth:

Ar hyn o bryd mae rôl beili yn GLlTEF yn cynnwys lwfans o £1,000 y flwyddyn. Mae’r lwfans beili yn benodol i’r rôl, nid yw’n destun cyfraniadau pensiwn a gellir ei adolygu, ei ddileu a/neu ei newid ar unrhyw adeg heb rybudd a byddai’n dod i ben petaech yn symud i rôl wahanol.

Yr oriau gwaith llawn amser safonol yw 37 awr yr wythnos. Mae GLlTEF yn croesawu ceisiadau i weithio’n rhan-amser, yn hyblyg ac i rannu swydd, pan fo hynny’n bodloni gofynion y rôl ac yn diwallu anghenion y busnes, ac ar yr amod bod hyn yn cael ei gytuno cyn i chi gael eich penodi. Bydd pob cais i weithio’n rhan amser, yn hyblyg ac i rannu swydd yn cael ei ystyried yn unol â pholisi Gweithio’n Hyblyg y Weinyddiaeth Gyfiawnder.

Prif faen prawf:: Prif faen prawf: Datganiad o Addasrwydd. Gellir cynnal sifft yn seiliedig ar y datganiad o addasrwydd os derbynnir nifer fawr o geisiadau.

Lleoliad sylfaen - Llys Sirol Pontypridd, Y Llys, Stryd y Cwrt, Pontypridd CF37 1JR

Bydd y gwaith a wneir ar gyfer Canolfan Cyfiawnder Sifil Caerdydd.
